AOD-9604.
A synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminal 15-amino-acid fragment of human growth hormone (residues 177–191), with an added N-terminal tyrosine for stability. Originally developed by Metabolic Pharmaceuticals in the late 1990s as a putative fat-metabolism candidate lacking the growth-promoting activity of full-length hGH.
Full-length human growth hormone (191 amino acids) is what your pituitary secretes. AOD-9604 is a fragment of that sequence — laboratory-synthesized, not derived from tissue, and lacking the receptor-binding domains that mediate the classical growth-hormone effects.
Sold with fat-metabolism implications that go substantially beyond what the published clinical trials support. AOD-9604 underwent Phase II human trials in the mid-2000s for obesity; the trials did not support the efficacy claims Metabolic Pharmaceuticals had projected, and clinical development was discontinued.
Straight talk
Straight talk: AOD-9604 has been in humans in real, published Phase II trials — and those trials did not produce the outcomes the marketing implies. Development for the intended indication was discontinued. Anyone selling it today with the same claims Metabolic Pharmaceuticals could not substantiate in a controlled trial is running well ahead of the evidence base.
What the research studies
The literature, not a summary of it.
The Metabolic Pharmaceuticals program (Ng, Wu, and colleagues) generated the primary clinical record. Foundational hGH-fragment work traces to Nyberg and the growth-hormone-fragment literature of the 1990s. Journals: Diabetes Obes Metab, Growth Horm IGF Res, Peptides. Read the research yourself:
