Selank.
A synthetic 7-amino-acid peptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) — an analog of the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin extended with proline-glycine-proline for stability. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences alongside Semax. Approved as a prescription anxiolytic in the Russian Federation; not FDA-approved.
Tuftsin is a natural peptide derived from cleavage of immunoglobulin G by the spleen. Selank is a stabilized synthetic analog designed to retain tuftsin-related immunomodulatory activity plus reported calming effects — with peptidase resistance sufficient for a stable clinical formulation.
Marketed in the Western peptide-user community as an "anti-anxiety peptide" with the Russian-clinical-approval framing as the trust signal. The Russian approval is real. The English-language consumer marketing routinely takes that as license for outcome claims the Russian label itself is more careful about.
Straight talk
Straight talk: Selank has been in the Russian pharmacopeia for anxiolytic use for over a decade; that's a real regulatory record, in a real jurisdiction, with real trials behind it. It has not been through FDA review. Western independent-replication trials are limited. The mechanism of action for the anxiolytic effect remains only partially characterized — the compound works in Russian clinical settings; why, at the receptor level, is less settled than the marketing suggests.
