Semax.

A synthetic 7-amino-acid peptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) — an analog of the 4-10 fragment of ACTH extended at the C-terminus with a proline-glycine-proline sequence for peptidase resistance. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the late 1980s. Approved in the Russian Federation as a prescription drug; not FDA-approved.

ACTH is a hormone your pituitary produces to signal the adrenals; the 4-10 fragment retains the nootropic/neurotropic activity of the parent hormone without the endocrine effects. Semax is a stabilized synthetic analog of that active fragment, laboratory-manufactured to a research-grade specification.

The Russian bioregulator tradition has produced two decades of publications on Semax, mostly in Russian journals, some translated. Western independent replication of the more expansive claims is limited. Consumer marketing in Western markets typically overstates what the Russian clinical record itself claims.

Straight talk

Straight talk: the Russian clinical record on Semax exists and is not trivial — stroke rehabilitation, cognitive research, some pediatric neurology. The Western independent-replication record is thin. The compound is real; the specific consumer-facing outcomes commonly promised in the English-language peptide market are not what the Russian label authorizes, and are not what independent Western trials have established.
